Q: Why are the cremated remains bubbly or have an orgainc color to it, like brown, green and orange?
A: Cremated remains are organic matter and there are two ways the cremation process happens through flame or alkaline hydrolysis (water cremation). When hot glass touches the cremated remains they will turn to a white color from the heat, but some organic matter doesnt always change leaving some color. The bubbles happen because the cremated remains off-gases or air can get trapped when making a piece, which is not uncommon.
Q: How long have you been working with hot glass and cremated remains?
A: Glass House has been making memorial glass since 2015. The owner of Glass House has trained in Glass since 2011 learning from various artist nationally and internationally.
